Saramago on Obama
Texto de Saramago, publicado ontem.
Donde saiu este homem? Não peço que me digam
onde nasceu, quem foram os seus pais, que estudos fez,
que projecto de vida desenhou para si e para a sua família.
Tudo isso mais ou menos o sabemos, tenho aí a sua autobiografia,
livro sério e sincero, além de inteligentemente escrito.
Quando pergunto donde saiu Barack Obama estou a manifestar a minha
perplexidade
por este tempo que vivemos, cínico, desesperançado, sombrio, terrível
em mil dos seus aspectos,
ter gerado uma pessoa (é um homem, podia ser uma mulher)
que levanta a voz para falar de valores, de responsabilidade pessoal
e colectiva,
de respeito pelo trabalho, também pela memória daqueles que nos
antecederam na vida.
Estes conceitos que alguma vez foram o cimento da melhor convivência
humana
sofreram por muito tempo o desprezo dos poderosos,
esses mesmos que, a partir de hoje (tenham-no por certo),
vão vestir à pressa o novo figurino e clamar em todos os tons: “Eu
também, eu também.” Barack Obama,
no seu discurso, deu-nos razões (as razões) para que não nos deixemos
enganar.
O mundo pode ser melhor
do que isto a que parecemos ter sido condenados.
No fundo, o que Obama nos veio dizer é que outro mundo é possível.
Muitos de nós já o vinhamos dizendo há muito.
Talvez a ocasião seja boa para que tentemos pôr-nos de acordo sobre o
modo e a maneira.
